Memex & Facebook: Similar tools. Similar goals. Divergent paths.

After researching the term "Memex" which was brought forward by the director of the Scientific Research and Development (1945), Dr. Vannevar Bush, we see how past predictions of the future correlate with technology surrounding our everyday life today. The link above connects Facebook and the Memex and shows how they have more similarities than differences. According to the article, both the creator of FaceBook, Mark Zuckerberg, and the theory of the Memex, Vannevear Bush, believe in increasing the technical ability to collect, consult, and share records of data. The article also explores if the Memex were to be created, would it be a social action or social setback? We see this controversy with Facebook today and how it follows the building blocks of the Memex. This article shifted my mind set to "there is no such thing" to "Facebook is simply a form of the Memex".

This is a very interesting article you found as it explains how Bush's Memex connects with Zuckerberg's Facebook. I guess the mythical concept of Memex was like the father of today's social network as they both function to collect and share various information.
